Synopsis

Internationalement connu et reconnu comme l'inventeur du Tableau-piège, Daniel Spoerri explore depuis le tout début des années 60 l'énigmatique banalité du quotidien. Les objets qu'il récupère, fixe sur des supports et détourne de leur fonction d'ustensiles, accèdent grâce à lui au monde des idées et deviennent des signes, des chiffres ou des fétiches.
Cette appropriation du réel l’a associé un temps aux activités du Nouveau Réalisme, puis l’a rapproché des positions radicales du mouvement Fluxus, cherchant dans les années 60 à réduire l’écart entre l’art et la vie.
Inventeur d’une optique moderne, créateur d’une galerie présentant des œuvres comestibles, organisateur de banquets thématiques, concepteur inspiré du musée sentimental, Daniel Spoerri développe un langage fait d’attitudes, de gestes, d’innovations culturelles qui le présentent comme un inventeur inlassable.

Known and recognised internationally as the inventor of «snare pictures», Daniel Spoerri has been exploring the enigmatic banality of everyday objects since the beginning of the 1960s. He takes such objects and fixes them on boards, appropriating their function as utensils so that they enter the world of ideas to become signs, figures or fetishes.
This appropriation of reality brought him an association with the activities of «Nouveau Réalisme» for a while, then, during the 1960s, took him close to the radical positions of the Fluxus movement that sought to reduce the distance between art and life.
As the inventor of a modern vision, creator of a gallery presenting «Eat Art», organiser of theme banquets and the inspired designer of the «Musée Sentimental», Daniel Spoerri has developed a language of attitudes, gestures and cultural innovations that show him to be a tireless inventor.
He was born in 1930 in Galati in Romania, and after studying in Zurich; he lived in first in France, then in Greece, Germany and the United States. Nowadays he shares his time between Paris and Tuscany.
